We are excited to share that through our "Farmers Supporting Families" program, we have successfully raised enough funds to support seven families in the Similkameen Valley/Okanagan region for a duration of 17 weeks!
What this means is that 7 families will be receiving Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares at no cost during our peak growing season. Along with providing fresh fruits and vegetables, we are delighted to offer fresh focaccia bread to the participating families.
This year, we have partnered with local organizations, Lower Similkameen Early Years & OneSky Community Resources to collaborate on logistics. Approximately half of the donated food will be dedicated to this partnership.
We are proud to focus on supporting early years and single parent households through this partnership. This collaboration is especially meaningful to our team as Annamarie, one of our farm co-owners, was once a single mom to her two children, Azalya and Brayden.
A little background on this program…
Last year (2022), our goal was to support and provide funding for a single-parent family in our local community. We named this initiative the "Single-Parent CSA Giveaway Initiative." Surprisingly, this program gained tremendous traction! Thanks to the support of our community, we were able to raise enough funds to provide food for a total of thirteen single-parent families and one local soup kitchen from June to October 2022. The reason we chose to focus on single-parent families is because our partner, Kevin, and Annamarie, who was a single mom to her first two kids, Azalya and Brayden, before partnering with Kevin, have personal experience in this situation.
While our primary focus remains on single-parent families, we are open to assessing needs in various areas. We are currently accepting nominations for both single-parent families and low-income households/individuals.
This program operates on community involvement, with nominations and sponsorships coming from local community members. All fundraising activities are conducted at local community events. Overall, this program provides us with an opportunity to distribute funds within our community, working towards improving food security right here in the Similkameen Valley. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have chosen to participate.
