What an absolutely glorious day in Cawston. Sunny and 9 degrees. A couple new items have appeared in the cafe: S’mores flavoured syrup and Orange Chocolate to spice up your latte! And for those of you who love the taste of hot sauce, but can’t take the heat, she made some habanero NOT HOT just for you! We are loaded up with all kinds of squashes plus white and pink daikon radishes, and watermelon radishes. Just to name a few. If you’ve been to the Marketplace and Café in the past three months, chances are you were served a delicious coffee or treat by Katherine. Here she is, proudly showing off her two favourite apples: the Macintosh and the Gala. Why are they her favourites, you ask? She says the Mac’s make the best apple pie, and the Gala’s make amazing applesauce. She really enjoys learning about the goings-on of the farm, and all the different kinds of produce. Katherine is from Alberta originally, but has lived in Cawston for three years. She’s actually a certified Care Aide, but says she loves being at the café and interacting with the customers (and especially her coworkers). When she’s not at Klippers, Katherine’s activity of choice is spending time with her dog, working out in the yard. Oh, and she's planning on getting married next year, so that must mean she likes spending time with her fiance too! Beautiful, organic Gala, Macintosh, and Sunrise apples are just flying off the trees, so come on down and get yours. 🍎🍏🌻 The Marketplace & Café is open seven days a week from 8am-4pm. Of course, these apples are also available weekends at the Vancouver Farmers Markets in Trout Lake, West End and Kitsilano.

🌼 It’s Flower Day Friday! 🌼 Each flower we sell was carefully picked this morning by our hardworking farmers; then lovingly assembled into charming bunches and vases by the talented Terrilynn, adding a touch of elegance to your weekend! 21 year old Terrilynn has worked for us since June of this year and divides her time between the Marketplace/Cafe and Row Fourteen. When she’s not working, she likes to spend her days hiking and hunting in the backwoods with her boyfriend. Something interesting about Terrilynn: she’s proudly adopted, and says she has the two most amazing parents in the world. Moreso, she has a LOT of siblings, and when asked for an exact number she had to really think about it. After some finger-counting, the answer was nine! Wow! Terrilynn’s middle name is Nevaeh, which is “heaven” spelled backwards, and when you meet her, it’s easy to see why she was given such a beautiful name. The Marketplace & Cafe will be open all weekend long from 8-4pm, so come down, soak in the vibrant colors, and indulge in the freshest offerings. Stay for coffee, breakfast, or lunch. 💥Recipe Card💥 We have an abundance of spaghetti squash and carrots. Here is our recipe for a vegan, gluten-free, and organic veggie packed Carrot Bolognese: 6 Carrots, small diced 3 medium onions, small diced 3 cloves of garlic, fine paste 750 grams chopped tomatoes 2 tsp worcestershire sauce 1 tsp each: oregano, basil and thyme powders Salt and pepper to taste 2 medium spaghetti squash, split in 1/2, seeds removed 2 tbsp oil, divided Optional: 1 tsp chili powers, peppers or red pepper flakes Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 400. Coat inside of squash with 1 tsp, oil, salt and pepper. Place inside down on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until fork tender. 2. Heat remaining oil in a large frying pan on medium-high. Add onions, carrots and garlic, cook until golden brown and very fragrant. Add herb mixture, salt and pepper. Cook 2-3 minutes until combined. Add worcestershire sauce 3.Add skinned and chopped tomatoes. Bring to a hard simmer then reduce to low and cook 15-20 minutes until sauce is reduced. 4. Once squash is slightly cooled, remove skin or gently fork away from the shell. COMMUNITY WORKSHOP ☺️ This Sunday, as part of the Art & Wine Crawl event, a workshop will be led by four members of the community, including two artists, someone from the LSCSS, and someone from OneSky. Although the workshop is geared toward youth and early years (0–6) everyone is welcome to join. From 12–2~, participants will have the opportunity to create Similkameen-inspired 'Earth Flags' using natural dyes and other natural items found in the valley. The goal of the project is to bring the community together to create an art installation that tells a story about our local area. The flags will be used to decorate our community, so come and join us in creating something beautiful! The workshop is free to attend, but please make sure to wear clothes that you don't mind getting messy! The event will be held just outside of Klippers Marketplace & Cafe.
