The Farmers
Since 2001 Kevin and Annamarie Klippenstein have been farming Klippers Organic Acres. They started with a 5 acre plot, and rapidly grew to almost 40 acres by 2009 due to the high demand for there organic produce. Kevin was in the food and beverage industry before farming, managing restaurants, bars, and hotels before making the leap to the “other side”. “Producing the food that people eat is so rewarding” Kevin says when asked about what he enjoys about farming. Kevin is also involved in the community as a volunteer fire fighter, Chair of the Organic Farming Institute Of BC, (check out an interview with Kevin here), and a VAC member for the Vancouver Farmers Markets.
Annamarie is the 3rd oldest of 12 children she grew up
on an organic vegetable and blueberry farm in the Fraser Valley called Forstbauer Natural food farm. She grew up working on the family farm (something she found greatly rewarding). When she was old enough to move out on her own she moved to Vancouver where she managed Lou’s bar and grill and started a modeling career. Annamarie ended up moving back to the family farm in 2000 where Kevin would spend his Sundays helping her at the Farmers markets in White Rock. Kevin and Annamarie have grown there farm now to where they take apprentices every summer, they are building and planning for a B&B and doing a CSA program.
